That 1954 price would be about $1350 today. Not far off the mark.
604-8G w/network $270.75 circa 1975.
That would be about $1200 today.
I ordered 604s in the winter of 1962/3, but they shipped 605As summer of 1963. I do not remember what I paid .
I recall ads a year or two later for the new 604E with XO at $199, and the 605A at $179

Ok My new 604 C showed up today from Jennifer...it's in awesome condition and it's dated sometime in 1954 so it's the same year as my other one.
I had time to put her in and have a little test listen. I could immediately tell a difference. They sound a whole lot more alike then they did.
Paid $250 each at Hollywood Sound, as I recall, for 604(e)s from a lot of 100 reissued in 1975 or 1976. Researched, designed, and built cabinets, for which I also bought oak veneer. Twenty-five years later, I applied the veneer. Those babies are still going strong today (I've blown the high end on one twice.). Have them bi-amped with a Marchand Electronics XM-26 Active Tube Crossover (Telefunken tubes, 1500hz crossover, 12db/octave slope), Cary CAA amp on bottom, and McIntosh MC225 on top.
